Moving from Arlington to DC meant having to figure out a new commute and other transportation alternatives to get to work. After several conversations with coworkers, some google mapping, and research on the web, turns out I have multiple options for commuting! While biking is still my primary transportation mode, I now have several backup choices and routes that I can take when things don’t go as planned.

On a recent trip back to NYC, I was excited to see the new Citibike bike share system being put to use but I also developed a deeper appreciation for “Bike Boxes” or “Advanced Stop Lines.” My current commute doesn’t offer me the opportunity to use these ingenious road design features (although there are some bike boxes in DC) but watching them utilized in New York made me pretty envious.

As someone who works professionally trying to encourage others to use public transportation and other forms of alternative mobility, I'm hesitant to make this statement, but: A growing part of me wants to own a car.
